20% of the movie is standoff where nothing happens between the fairies and Artemis. To save money on FX, they created a throwaway line that is he an extra large dwarf who wants to use fairy magic to be small like other dwarfs, now they don't need to shrink josh gad down at all. How did the evil mastermind villain not think the golden acorn that can teleport anything could be used against him? Mulch diggums is the narrator for the movie, which while not great isn't terrible. The acorn is all powerful so the characters use it to teleport and save fowl Sr. The golden acorn is in a safe 50ft from where the movie starts. Instead of stealing fairy gold to help his mother, his father is kidnapped by some masked bad guy (the bad guy from the second book) and asked to find a big golden acorn. The only naughty thing he does is capture holly short. Through out the movie Artemis is a lovable kid who is nice to pretty much everyone. They also remove the fact that Artemis fowl is a heartless criminal mastermind and replace him with a smart boy who just wants his daddy. My review: The movie starts with Artemis fowl as a misunderstood boy genius who lives with his father in Ireland.The first mistake they make is getting rid of the sick mother and replaces her with a loving father who is away on business and may or may not be a criminal.
